On March 5th, the Nikkei Shimbun reported that SORABITO, a Tokyo-based company specializing in sales support software applications for construction machinery rental businesses, has partnered with major home improvement retailer Cainz to launch a service that will rent construction equipment to individuals for do-it-yourself (DIY) projects.
Cainz is a Japanese version of Home Depot or Lowes in North America.

The service accepts orders through a section of Cainz's specialized construction materials and tools department, known as "Zaikokan," and through a dedicated reservation site.
Approximately 15 types of equipment, including machines for compacting and flattening soil, will be available for rental for up to one week.
The service will initially be offered at three stores, including locations in Niiza City, Saitama Prefecture, and Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, with plans to assess demand before expanding nationwide.
Cainz has previously offered tool rental services and aims to broaden its range of available items to capture a wider market that includes construction businesses, farmers, and individuals who enjoy DIY projects.
SORABITO will be responsible for suggesting and sourcing the equipment for rental and receives a service fee from Cainz for its services.
