Located in the beautiful prefecture of Nagano, ISN is an International Baccalaureate (IB) accredited school that attracts families from across Japan and around the world.

A Campus Environment That Inspires Learning

Surrounded by forests, rivers, and mountains, ISN’s campuses in Nagano provide a natural learning environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and independence. The school emphasizes hands-on experiences, with classrooms that often extend into nature.

Whether planting vegetables, exploring nearby woods, or learning science through real-world discovery, ISN students benefit from an immersive learning experience that goes beyond traditional academics.

IB Curriculum and Global Standards

ISN is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), ensuring students receive a globally recognized education.

The IB framework nurtures inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring learners who are motivated to succeed. This academic foundation allows students to transition smoothly to other IB programs around the world or to schools in their home countries.

Summer School

Every summer, ISN hosts a summer school program designed to engage children in both English learning and outdoor exploration.

The ISN Summer School is a week-long English immersion program designed to build confidence and language skills through fun, interactive activities. Students join peers from diverse backgrounds for games, arts and crafts, and team-building exercises conducted entirely in English.

Together with their teachers, students also explore nearby parks and cool down in local rivers and swimming pools.  As ISN often has students from across Japan and even overseas join the summer program while their families vacation in scenic Nagano, regular students have the opportunity to meet others from many different places.

Ideal for Bilingual and International Families

ISN’s diverse student body and international curriculum make it a top choice for expat families, returnees, and bilingual households. With campuses in Nakano (Nagano), Minami-Matsumoto, Matsumoto Shimauchi, and Saku, the school offers accessible education to families living in and around Nagano.

If you’re looking for a school that nurtures academic excellence, global citizenship, and a love for nature, the International School of Nagano offers an ideal learning environment year-round - and especially during the summer months.
