On November 27th, FJ Next Holdings released its Most Desired Neighborhoods to Live In 2025: Single Residents’ Rankings survey results
The company conducted an online survey from October 20 to 28th, targeting 1,600 unmarried men and women in their 20s and 30s who live alone in the Greater Tokyo Area (Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba prefectures).

When asked where they would most like to live now, Kichijoji ranked No. 1 (same as last year), marking its eighth consecutive year at the top since the survey began.
Respondents described the area as “stylish” and “convenient,” while others highlighted its “attractive parks” and “quiet, livable atmosphere.”
Yokohama placed second (same as last year), followed by Shinjuku in third (also unchanged).
Responses tended to fall into two broad categories: image-based evaluations (e.g., “stylish,” “easy to live in”) and practical convenience factors such as transportation access and shopping.
Kichijoji and Yokohama scored highly on both image and convenience, while Shinjuku was evaluated primarily for its convenience.
When asked which neighborhoods offer the best cost performance, Shinjuku ranked number 1 (up from third last year). Respondents cited excellent transport connections - “a hub that makes it easy to get anywhere” - as well as the density of shopping facilities and corporate offices.
Shibuya ranked second (up from fourth), and Kita-Senju placed third (up from 12th).
Opinions split into two main camps: the “time performance” group, prioritizing convenience and time savings, and the “wallet-friendly” group, prioritizing lower prices and rent levels.
