The Golden Trail World Series came to Myoko for the first time on September 19-20, 2026, bringing around 700 runners from Japan and overseas to the resort.

The Japanese news report below uses the event to look at a much bigger story: Myoko’s push to become a year-round international destination, the large-scale resort investment underway in the area, and how local residents are responding to the changes taking place around them.

Key Topics

  • Patience Capital Group brought the event to Myoko as part of a broader effort to attract visitors outside the winter ski season.

  • The report puts PCG’s planned investment at around JPY 200 billion over ten years, including hotels and commercial facilities.

  • Summer tourism is a central theme of the report. PCG says bringing events and other attractions to Myoko outside winter is an important part of developing a year-round destination.

  • Local businesses interviewed at the event welcome the prospect of more green-season visitors and believe Myoko’s natural and recreational assets could encourage repeat tourism.

  • The race itself is presented to showcase Myoko’s landscape, raise its international profile and make greater use of the area’s natural assets outside the ski season.

  • The report also highlights concerns within the local community. A representative from Suginosawa says rising land and vacant-home prices are encouraging some residents to sell, raising questions about the long-term future of the community.

  • He says communication with PCG has generally been positive, while expressing concern about other outside developers entering the area without the same level of engagement with residents.

  • PCG says its longer-term vision goes beyond tourism, with the aim of encouraging people to return to the region, attracting new residents and developing the wider Myoko area over time.

  • The report closes with an update on PCG’s hotel development. Construction has been delayed by around two months, although the company continues to target the 2028–29 winter season for opening.
