The findings come from a survey released on October 8 by MAJOR7, a group of seven major Japanese condominium developers. Respondents were members of the participating companies’ websites who were interested in buying a new condominium.
Meguro rose from fourth to second, while Shinagawa slipped one place to third.
Takanawa Gateway and Hiroo Rise
The survey asked respondents to select three station areas where they would like to live, awarding points according to the order of their choices.
Greater Tokyo’s top 10 were:
Ebisu
Meguro
Shinagawa
Kichijoji
Yokohama
Nakameguro
Takanawa Gateway
Jiyugaoka
Yoyogi-Uehara
Hiroo
Takanawa Gateway rose from 13th place in 2025 to seventh. Hiroo climbed from 17th to 10th, while Jiyugaoka fell from third to eighth.
The rankings show where respondents would like to live. They do not measure completed purchases or explain why an area’s position changed.
What Makes Each Area Appealing
The survey also asked respondents why they chose their first-ranked location. Their answers highlight different priorities.
Among those who selected Ebisu, 40.7% described the area as stylish, while 39.0% cited transport convenience. More than one-third also mentioned convenience for daily life or a sense of status.
For Shinagawa, transport was the leading attraction, cited by 67.5% of those who chose it first. Another 37.5% said they expected the area to develop further.
Kichijoji drew interest for its shopping and green space. Nearly seven in 10 of its first-choice supporters cited its commercial facilities, while 47.6% pointed to its parks.
The percentages for individual areas are based on small groups: 59 respondents chose Ebisu first, 40 chose Shinagawa and 42 chose Kichijoji.
MAJOR7 conducted the online survey from August 10 to 24, 2026. The Greater Tokyo ranking is based on 2,268 responses and reflects the preferences of the participating developers’ prospective buyers, rather than those of all homebuyers.
